Joint Efforts for More Security: CONET is a Founding Member of the "Cyber Security Cluster Bonn e.V. "

Cooperation between public sector, research and industry – CONET links consulting skills with industry requirements on the board

Hennef, November 9, 2018. With the founding of a new association, the city of Bonn is strengthening its importance as a prime location for security. The "Cyber Security Cluster Bonn e.V. " bundles all security institutions based in the region. The alliance between the public sector, the German Federal Armed Forces Bundeswehr, research and industry aims to establish the region Bonn / Rhine-Sieg the European center for cyber security.

The Hennef-based IT systems and consulting provider CONET is involved in forming the association as a founding member and is providing their Managing Director Dirk Lieder as one of the board members: "German IT and consulting companies concentrate an impressive spectrum of security, process and industry know-how from many years of project experience. We therefore understand our role on the board of the Cyber Security Cluster Bonn as connector of these cyber competences as well as a representative of the special security requirements and needs of different user companies."

Cyber Security as a National Task

Cyber attacks are on the rise in Germany across all industries and company sizes. It is increasingly difficult for individual companies and organizations to respond appropriately to these challenges and threats. Therefore, for example the Federal Office for Information Security, the "Kommando Cyber- und Informationsraum" of the German Federal Armed Forces, the University of Bonn, the "Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg", the Fraunhofer Institute FKIE, the Bonn/Rhine-Sieg Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Police NRW and numerous companies such as Telekom and Deutsche Post DHL Group already cooperate with the city of Bonn and other partners.

With the "Cyber Security Cluster Bonn e.V. " this should work even better in the future. CONET Managing Director Lieder explains: "The combination of research, teaching, politics, manufacturers, consultants and users in the Cyber Security Cluster Bonn is unique and contributes significantly to understanding and advancing cyber security as a national task. This is an indispensable approach because the challenges of secure digitization cannot be managed by any side alone."

Council of Cyber Experts for the Federal Government

For practical cooperation, the members of the Cyber Security Cluster Bonn have set numerous goals. For example, the association wants to form an internationally recognized panel of experts consisting of leading security specialists in the form of a Council of Experts. This shall provide recommendations on national and EU cyber security policy and the economy. In addition, the committee intends to publish an annual report on the security situation in Germany.

Technologically, the association also wants to set new standards: A district of Bonn could become a showcase for secure digital technology. "Secure Digital City Bonn" is intended to make keyless access systems, intelligent parking, digital identity use cases as well as autonomous driving and digital payments more tangible to industry and public, thus facilitating easier access for modern technology onto the mass market.

Further areas of work of the Cyber Security Cluster Bonn include startup promotion, research, training and events. Once a year, a "Cyber Security Tech Summit Europe" will bring together more than 3,000 international industry experts in Bonn. With its own award ceremony, the association wants to draw the public's attention to cybercrime and the protection against it.
