  Be the first to know what is happening; understand a situation quickly and precisely and make informed decisions. With the flood of multimedia data, sensor systems and new technological possibilities, these challenges are becoming ever greater. Situation pictures are the central point of contact for data streams. They serve as a source of information and form the basis for decision-making.

  Generative artificial intelligence (AI) offers new possibilities for understanding texts, images and geodata, for example, much more easily, for automatically recognizing topics and contexts and following instructions precisely. Large language models (LLMs) can directly access extensive internal databases or world knowledge. By being able to query this data directly, information becomes more easily available. This direct interaction and intelligent support simplifies the evaluation of highly complex situations. At the same time, the quality of automation increases significantly. Previously hidden information is accessible in real time and can be understood through suitable visualization. This increase in capabilities and better control of the situation strengthens resilience, also with regard to new threat scenarios in the areas of cybercrime and disinformation as well as in dealing with crises.

  We provide clear insights into the future situation picture and AI-supported smart assistance for communicating with complex documents, such as technical manuals. We also look at possible attacks on LLMs.

  The fundamental insights and practical examples show the possibilities for a whole new level of assistance, opened up by bringing together different technologies and intelligence disciplines.
